Pipe Lining (CIPP) in Philadelphia, PA

Cured-in-place pipe: a new epoxy pipe built inside your old one — sealing cracks, joints, and root openings with zero digging. Often the least disruptive fix there is.

How it works

A new pipe, built inside the old one

A felt liner saturated with epoxy resin is installed through your existing lateral — usually through the cleanout — pressed tight against the old pipe wall, and cured in place. The result is a smooth, jointless, root-proof pipe inside the old shell. No trench. Usually no pits either.

01

Camera inspection

We map the line's condition, length, diameter, and every connection. Lining only works if the pipe has structure to cure against — the camera tells us for certain.

02

Hydro jet cleaning

The line is pressure-washed clean. Roots, scale, and grease come out so the liner bonds tight to the old pipe wall. Skipping this step is how linings fail; we don't skip it.

03

Liner installation

The epoxy-saturated liner is pulled or inverted into place through the cleanout and inflated so it presses against every inch of the old pipe.

04

Cure & verify

The resin cures hard — ambient, hot water, or steam depending on the job. Connections are reinstated, the camera goes back through, and you get a recording of the finished pipe.

When you need it

Sound familiar?

This is how our calls usually start, in the caller's own words.

Caller language

“Roots keep coming back into the line”

Clay laterals are joined in sections, and every joint is a root invitation. If the pipe still holds its shape, lining seals every joint at once — one continuous barrier roots can't cross.

Caller language

“The camera guy said the pipe is cracked”

Cracks, fractures, and separated joints in an otherwise standing pipe are lining's sweet spot. You get a rehabilitated line without excavating a 100-year-old street front.

Caller language

“There's a sewage smell in the house”

Leaking joints let sewer gas escape into the ground — and back into the house. A cured liner seals the whole run, end to end.

Caller language

“PWD flagged our lateral”

A Notice of Defect for a leaking or deteriorated lateral doesn't have to mean digging up the sidewalk. Lining satisfies the repair requirement trenchlessly in most cases.

Method details

What lining fixes — and where it stops

It fixes

  • Cracked or fractured clay and cast-iron pipe that still holds its shape — the classic Philly rowhome lateral.
  • Separated or leaking joints — the liner bridges every joint with one continuous epoxy pipe.
  • Root intrusion through joints and cracks, after hydro jetting clears the line.
  • Minor corrosion and scale — the liner's smooth surface flows better than rough old clay.

Honest limits

  • It needs a host pipe. A collapsed, missing, or fully flattened section has nothing to line. That's a pipe bursting job — or excavation.
  • A sagging belly stays a belly. The liner follows the existing pipe's grade, so if the line dips and holds water, lining won't fix the grade problem.
  • Slight diameter reduction. The liner sits inside the old pipe. If you need more capacity, bursting is the method that upsizes.
  • Branch connections get reinstated with a robotic cutter after the cure — routine, but part of the scope you should know about.
Philly note

Lining is the gentlest option for a Philadelphia rowhome: it installs through the cleanout, so there is often no digging at all — not even pits. For party-wall rows with zero side access, that can be the difference between a fix and a logistical nightmare.

Pricing

What it costs in Philadelphia

CIPP lining, priced per foot

Lining is usually priced per foot of lined pipe, after we see it on camera. Pennsylvania law caps deposits at one-third of the contract price on home-improvement contracts over $5,000. We never ask for more — and your quote is in writing before you approve anything.

Length and diameterMore liner and bigger pipe cost more material.

Good to know

Straight answers before you call

No — lining needs a host pipe to cure against. A collapsed or missing section has nothing to line, and that's a job for pipe bursting or excavation instead. The camera inspection tells us which one you're looking at.

CIPP liners are engineered as a decades-long fix — the liner becomes a smooth, jointless, corrosion-resistant pipe inside your old one. It's warrantied like a new pipe, not like a patch.

Slightly — the liner sits inside the existing pipe, so you lose a small amount of internal diameter. In practice the smoother epoxy surface flows better than rough old clay, so it's rarely a real-world issue. If capacity is your concern, pipe bursting can actually upsize.

Yes — when roots are getting in through joints and cracks but the pipe still has structural shape, the liner seals every joint and crack with one continuous barrier. Roots can't penetrate cured epoxy. If roots have already crushed the pipe, though, it's a bursting job.

Most residential linings — inspect, clean, line, cure, verify — are done in a day or two. Cure times vary by method, and you can't run water while the liner cures; we'll tell you exactly what that window looks like before we start.
